The Kashmir News Observer (KNO) was informed by Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, the director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), that heavy to very severe snowfall is possible over the middle and upper portions of the districts of Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Budgam, and South Kashmir on February 19–20.

According to Ahmad, on February 19, the weather in Kashmir is predicted to stay partly to mostly cloudy with the chance of light snow in a few isolated higher reaches by late night.

He stated on February 19 that most locations could have mild to moderate rain and snow, with isolated higher elevations of North, Northwestern, Central, and South Kashmir potentially seeing severe precipitation.

According to officials, “the mechanical and hospital engineering department has about 300 machines available, and they are already stationed in all districts.”

He claimed that more than forty equipment have been stationed in the Srinagar district alone to handle any problems resulting from the anticipated weather.

The official added that they have purchased advanced snow removal equipment with plastic cartilage snow blades to guarantee that there is no or very little risk of harm to the roads during the snow removal process.

Additionally, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri called a meeting of Heads of Civil Departments and Deputy Commissioners, and gave orders to all departments to maintain personnel, supplies, and equipment on hand in case any emergencies arising from the anticipated snowfall.
